[Music updates] My Starbucks gig videos

Music updates

I swear this is the first time I've chionged so many songs within a week.
I must admit that I didn't put in my 100% on the stage and obviously hadn't warmed up.
Neither had I been practising these songs at home due to busy schedule this week.

Even though I've sang in front of crowds of up to 800 pax, I still get the jitters and tummy butterflies even on the smallest stage, with the smallest audience. I wonder whether pro singers like Miaoru, Stef Sun or Kewei feel as nervous when they have at least a million times more stage experiences than i do.

Anyway, i gathered that through these 3 consecutive days of gigs and through taking them down on video, I really learn a lot about myself. Singing live and singing in the studio are 2 very different experiences. Obviously, when you sing in a studio, you can edit whichever parts you're dissatisfied with up to a few hundred times if you want. But when you sing live, it's an all-out chance to unleash whatever you've been practising behind the scene.

So much technique issues to note: Breathing, tempo, emotions, power control, posture, voice placement, memorization of lyrics (especially so for me) and so on... Well, all in all, I'm really glad to have grabbed hold of this chance to give my stage presence and live singing a try. Very valuable experience that can't be fully described with words. Thank you juniors, Cassandra and Jeremy for helping out especially! :)

我怀念的 - by Stefanie Sun
& Jar of hearts -  by Christina Perri
My personal take on this first performance after a long break from the stage: I think I sing more stably when I sit down? Of course, it's at the expense of power. Started off the first day with the most comfortable songs. :) Good choice hor! :p

枫 - by Jay Chou,
When I look at you - by Miley Cyrus,
猜不透 - by Dingdang
Singing on my feet elevates the voice placement somehow to the head and nose. With less base support, I couldn't hold the notes at the pitch for long. I'm considering going back for music classes, individual classes. (Of course, when i start earning $) Heh.

刺鸟 - by FIR
掉了- by A*Mei
Wow, i love the thumbnail for this video! LOL. Very act. ;p
Back to back powerful songs, which I could hit the notes, albeit unstably.
Anw, it's the first time I'm singing 掉了live and have always been listening to it on the iTouch. I fell in love with it since I heard Miao sing this song for her competition. (Yes, you've indeed seen Miao's name twice in this entry. 3 times liao. It's cos I super love her voice! Go check out her blog and music at ruthkueomiaoru.com!)

Have been receiving a lot of messages from my listeners and friends. I'm really grateful to have you guys poking around. Hehe.

Meanwhile, apologies for my delayed giveaway post. Too damn busy with  my group project already.
Somemore, I'll be going to Genting again next for a game showdown filming under Reelity.tv and Nuffnang. I've made the choice to give up on being physically present for my 20% presentation and am also gonna skip one soci of sexuality lecture. Thank god for Shuying! <3 Forever helping me chope seat in lecture and letting me freeload off her.

Another very crucial update about wad's going thru my mind is that I might go for a job interview afterall after graduation. And if I get through, my life is gonna be so goddamn hectic but adventurous. I'm just gonna embrace my future with open arms and maximum positivism! Sunshine everywhere. :) 2012 has been a good year for me. May it spill over to my loved ones and for the rest of my working years.

Hearts,
ZiweiSandy

P/s: Giveaway post will be up on Sunday! Stay tuned.

[Ziwei's new cover] Skyscraper by Demi Lovato

Hey guys.

Long time nvr update on my list of cover collection already!
REALLY REALLY GLAD TO SQUEEZE SOME TIME OUT TO SING! ^.^v

Anyway, this time i've chosen the song
[SKYSCRAPER]
by Demi Lovato.

-Video is embedded below-

I love her original version cos she has brought out the intense emotions of sorrow so perfectly!
Lovato's voice is relatively husky and low-pitched, but her techniques are really remarkable, as I can tell from her use of diaphragm to produce the airy husky voice even at the high pitched parts of the song!
Well, i guess one of my many problems is definitely my lack of rich emotions, which if i could unleash them in my voice and the songs, i'll definitely sound twice/thrice/quadruple better at least.

For my rendition, I've decided on the acoustic version as I kinda want to take it easy on myself. :/
This song is NOT EASY to master. I was struggling while producing this cover even though the acoustic version is supposed to be slightly easier to cover. Another reason for choosing this song is that I want to dedicate it to many people YET AGAIN. Haha.

1. Leonard -
Bee, thanks for always being the first one to listen to my lousy draft-ones and giving me the layman truthful comments for me to work on my draft 2. I love u for always being so supportive throughout this unprofitable project of mine to you, i.e. sharing on facebook and retweeting my work. Loves! <3

2. Marcus -
As always, you're the greatest inspiration and motivation I have to continue pursuing this endeavour. Not that I'm a goddamn good singer now, but at least I've made progress and achieve a few past-1000 views on my  youtube channel. >50% of my achievement is thanks to you. :)

3. Jiali aka Jael -
I guess your situation now is very aptly narrated between the lines of the song. I hope that you can become stronger than you can imagine yourself to be just like how the song depicts a woman to become independent again like a skyscraper. We all know some guys out there don't deserve their balls if they can find excuses to hurt someone who love them wholeheartedly. He'll get his retribution.

4. Brad and Melody -
"Fame is overrated" Brad, you inspired me to continue pursuing my passion and taught me to consciously stop myself from being distracted by other unnecessary but inevitable temptations. Salute at you for your inclining success at your career. Melody is a rare gem; beautiful, sexy, bubbly, independent and passionate. Brad, you've got great taste. Mel, i love how we can clique instantly. HAHA! ;) Regards for your r/s to soar higher than the skyscraper! x

5. Jiajun -
Do you guys know I have a little Sec 1 bro who has recently been following my footsteps? Super cute didi has his own youtube channel spammed with his covers on Taylor Swift songs. Studies first still, but I'm so glad that we've got common passion. Will impart to you what I learn from my personal music project. Love ya! :):)

6. My powerpsych girls, Bestbrosforlife, bestie Lianne and bf Jo, Misc RV bball buddies, encouraging friends like Xiner, David, Wenjie, Wingkee, Val and Kelly, Nic -
I'll sing for you guys. Forever.

Anyway, I have so many problems to tackle on really, like pitching, breathing control, diaphragm support, head voice, etc etc.. Have been receiving very helpful and sincere-to-help criticisms which are exactly the type of feedback I was hoping to receive for improvement! Well, being a budget youtube singer who cannot afford to spend any bucks on music lesson, I can only rely on viewers'  feedback. Really not improving at a remarkable speed, but I can feel the experiences accumulating up for better following covers! ^^

Either way, enjoy the cover~ :D
-I suggest you go stop the autoplay music widget on the sidebar and watch this HD quality one here instead!-

Would appreciate if you like it on youtube or share it on facebook/twitter if you find it worth sharing. No obligation tho! :)

For my next cover, do expect a relatively easy Chinese song by 叮当.
I'll note the criticisms and feedback which I've received and attempt to make the next Chinese cover sound better than good. :) You know i'm really serious at this. ;D

ZiweiSandy
