Food review
Finally, i found time to do this long overdue blog review.
Aww man.. I do miss writing about food. :)
Leonard and I seldom head out to Dempsey for expensive meals as people know both of us make up a budget couple. But, this food-hunting/brunch-hunting started ever since we came back from the Genting trip and befriended Brad, the food blogger from www.ladyironchef.com. :) Go check his professional food review out! Of course, we can't afford to splurge on delicious, famous food everyday like him, but we try to make it a point to head out and reward ourselves for the week's hard work in school, every Sunday afternoon for late brunch.
Here's House at the Barracks for you! :)
The design.
Surrounded with greenery, the design concept of this cafe's is arty-farty but back-to-basic.
As first-timers, we thought the kitchen (below) was the main dining place. Noob. ikr
How the outdoor dining area looks like.
But actually, nobody among us preferred eating outside in the day since they've air-conditioning within the main building. Not too sure if you can arrange to hold an event in this outdoor zone, but it does give you a pretty setting. :)
"Opened in 2007 as an ambitious 17,000 sq-feet venue that combines an indoor and outdoor cafe, 4 multi-function rooms and a bar... the former British military barracks has been refashioned into a whimsical dining space."
I really like how they design the entire cafe restaurant.
Spacious and casually decorated with flower vases and dessert items.
Table-ception!
When we were there, there was only 1 portion of the entire dining area occupied. I recalled being invited to my secondary school friend's 21st birthday dinner held there.
At night, the whole cafe would be bustling with hungry diners, seeking to catch up with friends, ranting and gossiping about work. Its ambience is definitely alleviating of your workplace worries and school burdens. At a price of course.
You can take a walk after brunch to explore the huge cafe.
I'm sure the pictorial grasses and fauna can aid in better digestion. ;)
Dining tables!
Creative frames of Art.
The food.
The newspaper-like menu of Barrack cafe.
We tried the truffle fries! Looked very normal but i swear it gets you addicted big time!
Which crazy dude drinks beer in the morning! Drunkard.
He's none other than the Team Relac party animal, Kenneth. -.-
I miss the total let-go times back at Genting with these people! I did cherish the trip and these new friends. :) Keep in contact for life k darlings. :)
Amanda's Sparkling champagne! $22++
Banana Cot $11++
Banana and apricot blended with yogurt.
My take on it: It's too sour for my liking.
But it's a very healthy drink option - great for digestion, an energy booster and full of the different beneficial vitamins.
Leonard and his
7 layer pancakes!!! $18++
Can you spot all the sweet ingredients between the seams of the fluffy goodness!? :D
Spread with nutella, the green raisins, dried apricot, pistachios and hazelnut make up the best combo for breakfast/brunch. Highly recommended dish, especially for people with sweet tooth!
The inseparable taste booster of the pancakes - maple syrup!
ZiweiSandy's review:
I'd have ordered this together with my own brunch dish, instead of sharing it with Leonard if I am blessed with more money and internal tummy capacity (which doesn't show externally T.T)
The soft butter pancakes was complemented perfectly with the healthy choice of nuts and dried fruits, ultimately making sweetness consumption not so sinful after all. I swear the bite into the 7 layer pancakes was unforgettable! Must-try! (Say until like i'm the ambassador right. -.-) Hehe.
Jaslyn and her ...
Spinach and Egg pizza $20++
ZiweiSandy's review:
The only vegetarian dish on the table. Stole a bite from Jaslyn and damn it's delightful,
especially with the skinny crunchy pizza crust. The spinach is cooked to a palatable softness and the accompaniment of grated eggs and olive oil makes it a heavenly vegetarian pizza.
Photography-ception! Amanda taking a pic of her ...
3 Berry Ahi Taki Sandwich served with Truffle fries! $19++
Honestly, I wouldn't order a dish, of which, the name I can't understand.
The name is indeed interesting and now I know Tahi is a type of tuna.
According to Amanda, the different types of soggy berries and soft but firm tuna come together and taste like "a song's harmony in clash keys". Sounds too exciting to miss it too!
Finally.....
My very own order: Barracks Freeform Eggs, priced at $21++.
You can request for your eggs to be cooked in any style you want - scrambled, poached or sunny side up.
Served with mushroom ragout,
fried Rose tomatoes
and Chipolata sausages!
ZiweiSandy's review:
Having tried so many poached eggs from different cafes and restaurants,
I'd rate Barracks freeform poached eggs to be one of the best cooked poached eggs. The egg yolk was not overcooked even a bit and every bit of the egg white was cooked to a perfect fluffy softness. The sausages were thick and juicy. Mushrooferms taste awesome with the special sauce. Surprisingly, vege-hater me found the crunchy tomatoes the yummiest among all. Can't forget flavour of the flawless blend outer crunchiness and the luscious tomato flesh within.
Time for some egg porn yo(lk)!!!
I know i'm evil. :p Purposely edited the picture to look dreamy. May you crave for bloated egg whites stuffed with runny deep yellow half-cooked egg yolk now and for the rest of the week. Hehehe..
;)
Truffle fries. Amanda commented that it's better than PS cafe's!
Gonna try that cafe out some day.
Cute palette of colourful chili, mayonnaise, mustard and tomato sauce.. ^^
Random pic of Angie and Kenneth, the besties.
Ironically, they're like the angel and the party boy.
The toilet.
You must be wondering why this crazy girl actually made the toilet a section with a formal header in the post. You'll find out why as you scroll down the page and understand the big deal of Barracks' toilet. The girls/bloggers went into frenzied excitement from the first step into the toilet, which actually looks like just another function room from the outside.
Ginormous. Right.
Anw outfit of the day:
Floral sundress in teal from Bangkok Chatuchak. :3
YOU CAN ACTUALLY FIND A SWEET COMFORTING CORNER TO CHILL WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR FRIEND TO TABIAN THE AWESOME FOOD OUT. lol.
Art can be found everywhere in the cafe literally.
I didn't dare to take a seat on the chairs at first cos afterall, it's in a public loo. :/
But this cute girl, Angie, went "EH EH HELP ME TAKE A PHOTO LEH!" and plunked her ass on the chair and posed. Hehe. Pretty effect there! ;)
I see a cleavage. :p
A series of maniacal camwhoring from now on. :p

Our favourite 五连拍!
We can't count but it's for the fun and laughter, peace and joy. <3
Of course, not forgetting my boy. <3
"Till the next brunch!" - Amanda
